Veterinary Pet Surgery

Surgery is sometimes necessary to keep your pet healthy, whether it’s routine surgery like spaying and neutering or surgical procedures designed to correct issues and improve your pet’s quality of life. Read below to learn about the types of surgical services we provide for pets here at AniMed Animal Hospital.

General & Advanced Surgery

At AniMed Animal Hospital, we understand that the thought of your pet undergoing surgery can be stressful or even scary. That’s why we take every precaution to maximize your pet’s safety. Before performing any procedure, we complete a comprehensive physical exam and pre-anesthetic blood work to confirm the anesthesia will be safe for your pet. During surgery, we use complete, advanced surgical monitoring to ensure that your pet is safe throughout the entire procedure. A Licensed Veterinary Technician will be assigned to continuously monitor your pet’s vitals, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and body temperature. Following surgery, we will manage postoperative pain through continued examinations and the appropriate pain medication.

We perform a wide range of surgeries including:

  • Spay & Neuter

Spay/Neuter Procedure

Our veterinary team recommends spaying or neutering all pets. It not only guarantees your pet won't become pregnant or impregnate another pet, but it can also help prevent some health issues— including certain cancers— and behavioral issues.

The spaying/neutering procedure is perfectly safe and routine, and your pet will be safely given general anesthesia throughout the procedure. The recovery from spay/neuter surgery is short and relatively painless– your pet may experience mild discomfort for a few days and then will be back to their old self without any changes in their personality or physical health.

If you have any questions about spaying/neutering, including the best age to have the procedure completed (generally, the younger the better), feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to answer any and all of your questions.
